The Tempest

The Proteans return to Basingstoke’s ‘best-kept secret’ the Walled Garden in Down Grange, for another of their popular performances of classic plays and are delighted to present William Shakespeare’s The Tempest for Summer 2023.

“WE ARE SUCH STUFF AS DREAMS ARE MADE ON, AND OUR LITTLE LIFE IS ROUNDED WITH A SLEEP”

A luxury yacht carrying Italian Aristocracy, A-Listers and social media influencers returning from a wedding, sinks off the coast of a remote Island. The inhabitants of this Island are a magician, his daughter, a shape-shifting spirit serving Bowie vibes and a member of a downed airline cabin crew with amnesia who everyone calls Caliban…

Laughter, love and intrigue all mix into a Pina Colada of a romp through Shakespeare’s last play. This Summer join The Proteans in the beautiful Walled Garden for a Desert Island disco with a Shakespearian twist. With the original text intact (but abridged), songs, comedy and a lot of heart, this is just the show you need to kick off a great summer.

Ticket holders are welcome to arrive up to 1 hour before the performance begins. We encourage you to bring a picnics and Prosecco to enjoy, while you soak up the atmosphere and experience the delight of some outdoor theatre!
